Password generator

A strong new password, without thinking of one.

ZZPass makes a random password for every account and remembers it for you. You never need to read it, type it or invent one again.

A ZZPass password, as generated

hT4^cq-Ws9mKa-Rz$e2B-n

19 random characters by default, with letters, numbers and symbols. Dashes split it into groups so it's easier to read off the screen, and add three characters on top.

Three places to get one.

Adding or editing a login

It's already waiting

Tap the empty password field. ZZPass shows a Password Suggestion ready to use with one tap, or tap Generator to choose its length and characters first.

Right in AutoFill

When a site or app asks you to create a password, iPhone can offer a strong one from ZZPass, and save the new login to ZZPass when you're done.

Any time

The Generator on its own

On iPhone, open the Security tab and tap Generator, then Copy Password. On a Mac, choose Generator in the sidebar.

When a site won't accept it.

Some sites cap the length or refuse certain symbols. Open the Generator and adjust; every change makes a fresh password straight away.

SettingWhat it does
Length8 to 100 characters. Starts at 19.
Lowercase, Uppercase, NumbersTurn a set off if a site refuses it. At least one stays on.
SymbolsOnly ^ @ * $ # &, chosen because almost every site accepts them.
DashSplits the password into groups of six. The dashes add to the length, so 19 becomes 22. Turn Dash off when a site has a strict length limit. Off below 9 characters.
  • Every type you leave on appears at least once, so "must contain a number" rules are met.
  • Tap the circular arrows for another one. Each is as strong as the last.
  • The bar under the password goes from red to green as it gets stronger.
  • Through AutoFill, ZZPass also reads a site's published length and symbol rules and follows them.
Tip: use the longest length the site allows. ZZPass remembers it, so a long password costs you nothing.

Swap your old passwords for strong ones.

A few a week is enough. Start where a break-in would hurt most.

  1. Open Password Health

On iPhone, Security → Health. On a Mac, Health in the sidebar. It lists weak passwords and ones you've used on more than one site.

  2. Start with email and banking

Your email can reset everything else, so change it first. Then banking, Apple Account and work.

  3. Change it on the site

Sign in, find Change Password, and paste a new one from ZZPass. Save the login in ZZPass with the new password.

The few passwords you'll type yourself.

Your primary password

Don't generate this one. Pick a few unrelated words you'll remember, at least 12 characters. ZZPass prints it on your Emergency Kit.

Wi‑Fi for guests

Turn off symbols and keep Dash on, so it's easy to read out. Or share it from ZZPass with a QR code.

TVs and game consoles

Shorter, letters and numbers only, is easier on a remote. Still unique, still saved in ZZPass.

Quick answers.

How random are the passwords?
ZZPass uses your device's secure random number generator, the same one Apple uses for encryption keys. Nobody can predict the next password, even knowing how the generator works.
What length should I use?
The default of 19 is plenty for almost every account. Go longer when a site allows it; ZZPass remembers it either way.
A site rejects the password. What now?
Open the Generator, shorten it or turn off Symbols or Dash, and try again. ZZPass makes a new password every time you change a setting.
Can I see a password after it's saved?
Yes. Open the login in ZZPass to see or copy it.
Should I change my passwords regularly?
Not if each one is strong and used only once. Change one when a site reports a breach, when you think someone saw it, or when Password Health marks it weak or reused.
Does Password Health check for leaked passwords?
No. It checks for weak passwords and for passwords used on more than one site. Fixing those two covers most real-world risk.

Never invent a password again. Free on every plan.

The generator, AutoFill and Password Health are all included free.
